Speaking on the topic of “Blessings and Curses” I asked the group at the Men’s Home Bible Study, “Have you ever felt like your life has been under a curse?” I was not prepared for the response I received as several men told of the tragedies they have faced in life…childhood traumas, loved ones being raped, and near-death experiences. One man shared about how his 3 year old son died 18 years ago. What tragedies these men have faced. I learned two things while listening to them talk.
Lesson Number One: I have been blessed to live a life relatively free of heartache and tragedy. The more I think about it the easier it is for me to conclude that I’ve lived a “sheltered” life. And I mean that in the best kind of way. Psalm 91:1 says that “He who dwells in the SHELTER of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” My life has been sheltered by God’s protection and care. That is part of the benefit of being under His Blessing.
Lesson Number Two: You have no idea what other people have gone through in their lifetime that has molded and shaped the way they are today. So many people are hardened and cold because their lives have not been “sheltered.” They have experienced the full brunt of the curse that this earth is under, outside of a relationship with the One Who brings the Blessing.
One of my main reasons for being here is to tell people about the Blessing and to point them to the Blesser, so He can free them from the Curse…and lead them to a “Sheltered” life.
He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the SHELTER of the Almighty.
